What is this?

Executive Order 14201, titled "Keeping Men Out of Women's Sports", is an executive order signed by U.S. President Donald Trump that bans transgender women athletes from competing on girls' and women's sports teams. The order threatens to revoke federal funding from schools and colleges that allow transgender girls to play on girls' teams, claiming this violates Title IX. The order does not restrict transgender men from participating on male sports teams.

What is in it for us?

Young adult transgender women face immediate exclusion from collegiate and post-secondary sports teams they may have been participating on or hoping to join. College students who are transgender women lose opportunities for athletic scholarships, team participation, and the social and physical benefits of organized sports. Young adults studying at institutions that previously supported inclusive policies may experience increased campus tension or feel less welcome in their academic environments. Those pursuing careers in athletics, coaching, or sports administration may face professional uncertainty about how to navigate the new requirements.

Young adult cisgender women athletes may feel their competitive opportunities are better protected, particularly regarding scholarships and team positions. Some young adults who believe in sex-based sports categories may feel the order ensures fairness in women's athletics. Young women who previously felt disadvantaged competing against transgender women may experience increased confidence in their athletic pursuits. Parents who are young adults may feel more comfortable with their daughters' future participation in school sports
